Although psychotherapy is sometimes referred to as a "talking treatment," it is fundamentally a friendly, cooperative process between you and a qualified specialist with the goal of assisting you in leading a more fulfilled, happy, peaceful life. It is much more than just a discussion; it is a time and place set aside, away from the noise of everyday life, where your experiences are acknowledged with empathy, attentive listening, and total nonjudgment.

If a client fully engages with the process of therapy they may see a number of benefits.
Feeling fully heard and understood allowing you to feel acknowledged.
Feeling relief and lighter as a direct result of expressing the depth of your emotions.
Gaining clarity through understanding your thoughts and emotions.
Receiving care and empathy around some topics in your life that require attentiveness and safety.
Gaining the ability to spot and challenge negative thoughts and belief systems.

A commonly preconceived idea of what therapy involves is the idea of a professional hearing what issues a client brings and then giving general advice like what to do , what to think, what your doing wrong and the exact steps of how to fix the issue. This idea is very prescriptive in its nature and works against the flow of counsellors. Therapy’s success is based on a number of things like trust, safety, non-judgment, the therapeutic relationship and patience. What therapy is not is a stream of fast advice, a quick fix or a professional telling you how to live your life.

Initially therapy is effective if both counsellor and client meet on a weekly basis. Then if a client feels they have made strong progress in that time period then after 8-10 weeks they may opt for bi-weekly sessions.
